MIYATA RyoheiMetal Craft Artist, Professor Emeritus of Tokyo University of the Arts, Director-General of the Japan Fine Arts ExhibitionAlong with the improvement work of Toyosu Station on Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line, I got a request for production of a public art, which directs a moisture space.
I was born in Sado city, Niigata prefecture. Back of my house is close to the ocean, and I grew up listening to the sea roar every day. When I felt nostalgic about my hometown, I searched for my new resident in a place where I could see the sea in Tokyo. When I went down to Toyosu Station suddenly, went up to a building and looked at the scenery around, the ocean expanded in front of me and I felt the ocean strongly near me. And I decided to become a resident of Toyosu with feeling attachment also to the fact that this place was the sea a long time ago. Being able to produce a work in such a place is a foremost pleasure for me.
In the past it was the ocean ... by expressing such a root of Toyosu, I hope that you can feel an emotion for the current Toyosu and hope for the future Toyosu. And also, I hope that this mural painting will be a place for many people to meet and a place that many people will be familiar with.
I wish for the future development of Toyosu and express my deepest appreciation to those who gave me this opportunity.
