MIYATA RyoheiMetal Craft Artist, Professor Emeritus of Tokyo University of the ArtsCongratulations on completing "Tokyo Senju Campus (100th Anniversary Campus)" of Tokyo Denki University this time.
In creating a new campus which is the core of the project commemorating 100th anniversary of Tokyo Denki University, I had a request for production of the monument on the occasion that Tokyo University of the Arts has its campus in the same Adachi-ku. I wish for the development of Tokyo Denki University aiming for harmony between technology and human society by strengthening ties with local communities and society, and I have created dolphins, which are my theme, getting closer each other and leaping. I hope that the area will be more exciting through opening of the new campus, and I would like to express my appreciation to everyone who gave me this opportunity.
Representative Director of Tokyo Denki University
At Tokyo Senju campus (100th anniversary campus) which is a new foundation for Tokyo Denki University to leap forward, we set up "Leap" created by Mr. Miyata, President of Tokyo University of the Arts.
Since its establishment in 1907, our mission is "to foster talent who contributes to society with technology" for over a century. In April 2012, we established this campus with full use of the latest technology for environment, safety and security towards the next century. I hope that the students will live campus life lively on this campus, and be more active in society than their seniors. The beautiful form and the momentum that the dolphins of this monument express are exactly the symbol of the further development of this school and the students' vigor.
President of Tokyo Denki University
We asked Mr. Miyata, President of Tokyo University of the Arts, which has a campus for faculty of music, etc. in Adachi-ku to produce this monument, and that was realized.
Tokyo Denki University respects the spirit of the school foundation "respect for practical academics", the education and research principle "technology depends on persons", and formulates the new vision of our univeristy for the next century "Tokyo Denki University Grand Design", and is promoting various measures. The Tokyo Senju campus is the base for new education and research at our university and is also the stage for the beginning of a new history.
Mr. Miyata's work "Leap" feels like a work expressing harmony between human beings and science and technology, and exactly the thought of our university's new "leap". I would like to express my deep appreciation to him here.
