Commentary

The illustration used as the basis for this ceramic relief was drawn by Osamu Tezuka in 1976. Osamu Tezuka already had numerous publications at that time, including eight monthly manga series such as “BLACK JACK,” “The Three-Eyed One,” “The Phoenix,” “Buddha,” and “UNICO.” The following year was a very busy one leading up to the huge project of publishing the 400-volume “The Complete Works of Osamu Tezuka’s Manga.” But Tezuka was full of creative energy and inexhaustible ideas each day.
This work, “Osamu Tezuka, Characters on Parade” originally depicted 92 characters marching, but we selected 36 and rearranged them.
Together with Osamu Tezuka we hope that this joyful parade, which includes not only humans but also animals, robots, and aliens, will head to a peaceful and bright future.       Tezuka Productions
