Lacquer artist

Introduced modern senses in the traditional lacquer work and created brilliant works full of tension. Created a number of works not limited to the "lacquer" world such as sculptural expressions and mural arts. Received the Order of Culture in 1998.

History

1914: Born in Hotaka town, Nagano prefecture
1940: Completed Tokyo Art School
1958: A councilor of the Japan Fine Arts Exhibition (Nitten)
1976: Became a professor at Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Art
1981: A member of the Japan Art Academy
1995: Became a professor emeritus at Tokyo University of the Arts
Along with the establishment of Toyota Municipal Museum of Art, Aichi prefecture, Setsuro Takahashi pavilion was set up together
1997: 《Noir de laque : signe de lumiere》 - takahashi setsuro exhibition, as part of the Japanese year in France in Paris
Received the Order of Culture
Became an executive advisor to the Japan Contemporary Arts and Crafts Association
2007: Passed away
