Artist's Message

KINUTANI KojiPainterThe Keikyu Line is directly connected to Haneda Airport, which is the gateway to Japan, and welcomes people from all over the world.
Imagining the joys and expectations at the beginning of people’s journeys, I depicted Mt. Fuji seen across Sagami Bay and the sun shining brightly during their trips to represent Japanese hospitality as well as the various attractions along the Keikyu Line.
I hope that those who visit Japan experience the many charms of Japan and have an exciting time while travelling.

We are pleased to announce the installation of the Ceramic Relief “Sparkling Hope, KEIKYU” at the Haneda Airport Terminal 3 Station on our Airport Line, which was created and supervised by KINUTANI Koji, one of Japan's leading Western-style painters.
We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Mr. KINUTANI and all those who have contributed to the production and installation of this work.
Haneda Airport Terminal 3 Station is directly connected to the international terminal and is used by many foreign visitors to Japan.
In this work, Mr. KINUTANI's skillful technique of depicting the powerful sun and Mt. Fuji expresses the anticipation of passengers departing for various destinations in Japan and the warm hospitality of the Japanese people who welcome them.
We are also very pleased with the colorful introduction of “Kawasaki Daishi, the birthplace of Keikyu,” “Kawazu cherry blossoms in early spring in Miura,” and “Hayama, the birthplace of Japanese yachting,” which are representative landscapes of the Keikyu rail line.
We hope that this work will be loved and familiarized as a new symbol of Haneda Airport for many years to come.

A Ceramic Relief work "Sparkling Hope, KEIKYU" based on the original drawings and supervision of master Western-style painter KINUTANI Koji has been completed at Keikyu Haneda Airport Terminal 3 Station. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Mr. KINUTANI and are truly happy about its completion.
Haneda Airport's Terminal 3 is directly connected to the international terminal, and the up platform (towards Shinagawa and Yokohama) where the work is installed is the first place outside the airport to welcome inbound foreigners. At that moment, this work is what catches your eye. The attractive scenery and tourist spots along the Keikyu line, such as the bustle of Haneda Airport represented by passenger planes flying through the sky, Mt. Fuji and blooming Kawazu cherry blossoms, Tokyo Bay and the sea of Hayama with its yachts, and Kawasaki Daishi, known as a ward off evil, will inspire your travels.
Creare Atami Yugawara Studio (Atami City), which turned Mr. KINUTANI's original painting into a ceramic relief, struggled with how to bring out the red, yellow, orange, and other colors of the original painting. Mr. KINUTANI also requested that "the vividness of the colors is important." The person in charge poured in their skills and know-how into mixing the glazes and the firing temperature for the glazed ceramic panels, and received the OK from Mr. KINUTANI in one try. This is the sixth collaboration between Mr. KINUTANI and the studio.
Since 1972, I have been installing public art around the country with the aim of "making public spaces comfortable," and this is my 560th piece. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Keikyu Corporation, which provided a great location where it could be seen by many people, and to all the people involved who cooperated.
