TAKAHASHI YoichiManga artistI am greatly delighted that this huge stained glass window "Captain Tsubasa" adorns the concourse of Urawa-Misono Station.
As everyone knows, this station is the one nearest to Saitama Stadium 2002-the home stadium of the Urawa Red Diamonds. The stadium is also frequently home to the Japan national football team. Therefore, I designed this stained glass with the feeling of supporting Japan.
The center of the design depicts the Tsubasa Japan team menbers wearing their national uniform ―the Japan team aiming to be the best in the world. So I also depicted rivals wearing the uniforms of their national teams placed around them. It will be a great challenge to defeat their rivals from around the world. Accordingly, I arranged scenes of previous challenges around them as proof of the great effort of the "Tsubasa" Players. I placed a dragon and tiger on both sides, and then hawks in the center to create the appearance of the players and their killer techniques with a sense of rivalry.
It would make me very happy as an artist if my work can move the hearts of those who visit this place even a little.

The enormous stained glass work of “Captain Tsubasa” is located in Urawa-Misono Station of the Saitama Stadium Line which is the front door to the biggest soccer stadium in Japan, ‘Saitama Stadium 2002’!
This exciting project was made possible through a subsidy from the Japan Lottery Association, cooperation of the Japan Traffic Culture Association and the original art and supervision by world famous comic artist, Mr. TAKAHASHI Yoichi.
I deeply appreciate from the bottom of my heart, Mr. TAKAHASHI Yoichi and the people who gave their all to this production and installation.
‘Captain Tsubasa’ has contributed to the popularization and growth of soccer not only in Japan but all over the world and is still loved by many people.
I am very glad that the players in ‘Captain Tsubasa’ are in Urawa-Misono Station which is the closest station to ‘Saitama Stadium 2002.’
In 'Saitama Stadium 2002' many important soccer games have been held like the 2002 FIFA World Cup, and games by the Japan National Soccer Team and J League teams.
It has also been selected as the soccer stadium for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. During the Olympics, many visitors from all over Japan and the world will use Urawa-Misono Station.
I wish from the bottom of my heart that “Captain Tsubasa: Spread Your Wings Around the World” will be loved by many people and be a great memory for the visitors to the station and the soccer fans, and also be a legacy of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. (March, 2018)

Now, with the cooperation of the Japan Traffic Culture Association, a stained glass art work by world famous Manga artist, Mr. TAKAHASHI Yoichi, “Captain Tsubasa: Spread Your Wings Around the World” is displayed in Urawa-Misono Station of the Saitama Railway line.
From the bottom of my heart I would like to express my appreciation to Mr. Takahashi and the people who worked so hard to complete this production and installation.
Famous scenes from ‘Captain Tsubasa’ depicted in this art piece will stir the memories of many who had dreams to be soccer players as well as inspiring today’s children. It is really a perfect match for our soccer town.
This year, Saitama-City celebrates its 15th year since being designated a city by government ordinance. In line with this, we plan to improve our infrastructure and enhance the charm of the city to be one of the central cities in Eastern Japan that is attractive to both citizens and businesses alike.
The Misono district is positioned as a subcenter of Saitama City and has been developed on a massive scale under the theme of ‘sports, health, environment and energy.’
New elementary schools and junior high schools will be opened in 2019 spurring an increase in population and town improvements.
I hope this art piece will be a symbol of Urawa-Misono town and contribute to the improvement, growth and revitalization of the area, as well as being loved by all who see it. (March, 2018)
