Heihachiro Fukuda (1892-1974), a Japanese-style painter born in Oita city, established a unique decorative style by vivid colors and simplified forms based on realism, and worked as a master representing the painting circle in Japan from Taisho era to Showa era. This mural is a stereoscopic representation of a Japanese-style painting called "Aogaki (Green persimmon)", which was made based on the sketch which Fukuda painted in Oita, his hometown. On the left and right, Fukuda's masterpiece "Sazanami (Ripples)" capturing the water surface swaying by the wind is partly attached.
Please enjoy Fukuda's shaping world that vividly reflects the natural breath by the massive ceramic relief.
Governor of Oita Prefecture
Katsusada Hirose
Owing to cooperation by Japan Traffic Culture Association, a ceramic relief which was produced based on the original paintings of "Aogaki (Green persimmon)" and "Sazanami (Ripples)" by Mr. Heihachiro Fukuda, who is a Japanese-style painter representing in Japan and was born in Oita prefecture, will be installed at Departure Lobby, Passenger Terminal Building, Oita Airport. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone involved who has worked on the production and installation of the work.
"Green persimmon" which is located in the center boldly closes up one branch of persimmon before coloring, and is expressed in a clear color and form. It is a Japanese-style painting which was created based on a sketch Mr. Fukuda drew in Oita, his hometown. Mr. Fukuda's masterpiece "Sazanami (Ripples)", which capturs the pattern of the water surface swaying in the wind is partly attached to the left and right. I am expecting that Oita airport will be more attractive and be loved by everyone forever as well as by Oita prefectural people, by installation of this ceramic plate.
Oita Airport will celebrate its 60th anniversary this year. In addition to enhancing domestic routes, we are actively working to attract from Taiwan especially on international routes, and we are working to establish early regular flights as we accumulate regular charter flights between Taichung and Oita.
As Oita prefecture, we will continue to make efforts to improve the convenience for the airport users, and would like to develop the airport to be loved by and familiar with everyone, so we appreciate your continued support and cooperation.
Director General, Japan Traffic Culture Association
Hisao Taki
Since its establishment in 1948, Japan Traffic Culture Association has actively engaged in promoting arts and culture, and the pillars of its activities are exhibition project represented by "Traffic Cultural Exhibition", scholarship project represented by "Takifuji Foundation" and "International Takifuji Art Award", and public art promotion project.
There is a sentence that speak for our thoughts on these projects. That is the next one written in Herbert Reed's "The Meaning of Art".
"Now, what we are missing is not an artist, but is a public. It is not a public who has consciousness on art, but is an unconsciously artistic public."
We continue the projects hoping to create "environments in which everyone unconsciously touches arts" through artworks such as stained glasses and ceramics reliefs that exist in public spaces, and to help realizing a society with relaxation and moisture.
We deeply appreciate many of you who have sympathized with the significance of public art and cooperated with it.
We sincerely hope for your continued understanding and cooperation on our association's activities, such as the promotion of public art, and the promotion of institutionalization of "1% For Arts" as its basis.
