Commentary

Kushiro Airport is surrounded by scarce natural environments such as two national parks called "Kamui tourist area of water" (Kushiro Wetland National Park, Akan National Park) and Ramsar Convention registration wetlands. Akan River flowing from Lake Akan and Kushiro River flowing from Lake Kussharo not only support the foundation of industry and life in the area around the airport, but also generate fog with warm air flowing from the sea off Kushiro, and moisten the forests in Akan caldera and Kussharo caldera. Also, in winter, various ice phenomena such as frost ice, coarse ice, frost flower, diamond dust etc. are generated in the three caldera lakes (Lake Akan, Lake Mashu and Lake Kussharo). Based on the concept of the workings by "water", which is characteristic at the airport surrounding area, this ceramic relief was produced.
