Nichigetsuseika (Sun, Moon, Star and Flower)
Ceramic Relief "Nichigetsuseika (Sun, Moon, Star and Flower)" / Original Painter and Supervisor : Setsuro Takahashi / Passage inside Ticket gate, Tokyo Metropolitan Shiodome Station / Installed on October, 2000 *The winner of Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Prize at "Japan Railway - Public Art Award" (in 2003)
This mural art was produced by replacing the lacquer which the artist is familiar with the ceramic which is durable. We continued to explore various possibilities in trial and error how to express black and gold, which was used as the image of lacquer in the original painting, on the ceramic relief.
Since the black glaze used at CREARE Studio at that time had a hard and heavy expression, which is different from an image of the clear blackness, we studied repeatedly seeking a high quality black by transparent glazes with a clear edge. Furthermore, regarding gold color, since there was also difficulty in fixing on the ceramic, we explored the possibilities of various kinds and colors of gold carefully, and repeated tests one by one.
Finally, we made a world beyond space-time that made use of the contrast of the deep black and the gold in the space of silver and white which is the theme color of Shiodome Station, by burning red gold with gold leaf at low temperature.
There is a constellation shining quietly for over thousands of light years, the appearance of birds freely flapping there reflects the heart of the artist, and the distant mountain ranges represent the mountains in his hometown, Shinshu. This ceramic relief giving a quiet impact to the station space in the bustle of the city attracts people's eyes and makes the space more refined. You will have a thought of eternity at a moment here.
