Western-style Painter

A master of Western-style painting society representing Japan, who still continues painting vigorously at present.
He keeps fighting with self paintings without being caught by time streams, and you can feel freedom without any restriction from his bold and fresh picture compositions. There are a lot of great paintings such as "Persons on a Rock", which received Yasui Prize. In addition to paintings, he writes picture books and numerous essays also, and has a lot of fans in his human-friendly literary activities. He is active in the field of culture and art, such as receiving Japan Essayist Club Prize with "A Drawing with Four Hundred Characters" in 1978. Professor Emeritus, Tokyo University of the Arts. He received the Order of Culture in 2014. Passed away in 2023.
