After graduating from high school, he became a pupil of Mr. Tsuruhachi Kataoka. Three years later, he appeared at Toho Master Performance, Asakusa Engei Hall.
After that, he became popular for the mass widely, starting with variety shows.
Currently he works as an actor who can play a wide range of characters.
As a painter for over 20 years, he holds exhibitions nationwide every year.
By passing Professional Yoga Test certified by Indian Government, he got the title of Yoga Master, Yoga Instructor.

History

1954
Born in Nishi-nippori, Tokyo.
1972
Became a pupil of Mr. Tsuruhachi Kataoka.
1988
Acquired professional boxing license.
Received many film awards including Best Supporting Actor Award at Japan Academy Film Prize by the movie "Summer with the Different Persons".
1995
Held the first painting exhibition "Like Dragonfly" in Tokyo.
Has held solo exhibitions with his new works every year until 2013.
1998
Kusatsu Tsurutaro Kataoka Museum opened.
2001
Held the first overseas solo exhibition in Paris, France, and it got popular.
Was in charge of the poster painting and subject title for Toei 50th anniversary commemorative work "The Millennium Love Hikaru Genji Monogatari".
2002
Yamanaka Tsurutaro Kotaoka Craft Center and Imari Tsurutaro Kataoka Craft Center opened.
2003
Fukushima Tsurutaro Kataoka Art garden opened.
Hobby with ease "Tsurutaro-style Sumi-ink-color Painting School" was broadcasted at NHK Educational Television and recorded a high audience rating.
2004
Hobby with ease "New Tsurutaro-style Sumi-ink-color Painting School" was broadcasted at NHK Educational Television.
2005
Hobby with ease "Continued Tsurutaro-style Sumi-ink-color Painting School" was broadcasted at NHK Educational Television.
2007
Won Sankei Shimbun Award at the 24th Sankei International Calligraphy Exhibition by the work "Bone".
2011
Exhibited full-scale Buddhist painting for the first time at "Repose of Souls and Mercy; Buddha's Natural Face Exhibition - Osamu Tezuka and the Four Great Giants".
2013
Was in charge of designing the 69th Yokozuna (Sumo grand champion) Hakuho's ornamental apron, and it was dedicated at Ise Jingu Shrine and was presented.
2014
Held "60th Birthday Red", an exhibition commemorating his 60th birthday and his 20th anniversary as a painter at Matsuya Ginza.
After that, he held it at 20 locations nationwide until 2017 (at the Ueno Royal Museum), and mobilized 350 thousand people.
His early works and latest works were presented lavishly.
2015
Received the 10th Ukyo Teshima Prize, which is said to be Akutagawa Prize for calligraphers by the work "Night".
Received Prize for Distinguished Service at the 32nd Sankei International Calligraphy Exhibition.
Held "Coloring Flowers in Four Seasons" that challenged collaboration with the latest technology such as projection mapping at Panasonic Shiodome Museum.
2016
Presented 11 works collaborated with Mr. Kundo Koyama, a broadcast writer, at First Passenger Terminal of Haneda Airport as an advertisement "Exhibition for Traveling Japanese Language". (still ongoing as of 2017)
2017
Passed Professional Yoga Test certified by Indian Government. Received the title of Yoga Master and Yoga Instructor from Indian Government, and was appointed as the 1st Yoga Goodwill Ambassador also.
Was in charge of designing the exhibition curtain at Netsunoyu, which is the site for a Kusatsu specialty Yu-momi.
Held "Coloring Flowers in Four Seasons" at 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa (for the first time at a province).
